What launched the DTM5 Strategy?   It was a combination of three things.

• I’ve been looking for a way to combine my business knowledge as a former market professional and now mid size company CEO together into a new venture
• The advent of Covid-19 created a massive economic disruption which is serving to redirect and accelerate change – I consider this a fortuitous time to start an investing venture
• I chose to create a ‘strategy’ as opposed to a ‘company’ to be able to overlay process on both personal and corporate investments.

Some more background

I’ve been investing, professionally and personally, for over 25 years.  I’ve seen market cycles, trends, manias, and bubbles come and go.  I entered the investment industry in the heyday of value investing circa 1994.  At the time, the investment world was on the cusp of the tech boom, while still embracing the dogma of Benjamin Graham and Sir John Templeton. 

One of the things I’ve learned over the past 25 years is that there are a myriad of strategies that may be employed to be successful.  One strategy – discipline – is not ‘the only way’.  In fact, if one pulls back the curtain of self interest of financial institutions, one sees that there is a many ways of investing successfully beyond what 95% of the financial industry and press understand or will tell you.  

My point in all this is to make clear that I do not come to my recent strategy development lightly or without experience.  

When Covid made its approach, and it became very obvious  that there was a crash emerging, I asked the question What are the potential impacts of this event, and how will will they steer emerging secular trends in market sectors such as technology, finance and commodities. 

So, out of my love of learning, small / micro cap investing, interest in economics, and business experience the DTM5 strategy was conceived. It is being applied to my assets both personal and corporate – The framework is in place and investments are underway. I’m optimistic this 10 year adventure will be a highly profitable one.
